The Gods of DiyalaReview by Robert S. AndersOne of the many curiosities about war is how it compels you to constantly immerse and detach yourself from it, often without your consent, and sometimes simultaneously.

Well-written accounts of warfare as witnessed by junior officer, which include George Wilson's If You Survive: From Normandy to the Battle of the Bulge to the End of World War II, One American Officer's Riveting True Story; James R. McDonough's Vietnam-era Platoon Leader: A Memoir of Command in Combat; and Sean Parnell's Outlaw Platoon set in Afghanistan during 2006, have enthralled historians and casual readers alike.

My husband read the book as soon as he opened it. He says I need to read it as it is an informative insight into our occupation of Iraq.
